Why do we measure our worth by how much we do rather than how fully we live?
In today’s fast-paced world, many professional women, especially those balancing careers in behavior analysis, family responsibilities, and personal aspirations, find themselves caught in an endless cycle of overworking and overdoing.
Despite their best efforts to achieve happiness and fulfillment, they often feel more stressed, anxious, and disconnected than ever before. The constant push to optimize every aspect of life, from work performance to personal well-being, has led to a burnout culture that leaves little room for true rest and rejuvenation.

the details
Based on the structure of Celeste Headlee's book "Do Nothing: How to Break Away from Overworking, Overdoing, and Underliving," we will split the reading load across four meetings in a way that aligns with the book's two-part division and the themes it explores.
Here’s the breakdown:
Meeting 1: Introduction and Foundation
- Read: Part 1, Chapters 1-3
- Focus: Introduction to the key concepts of the book, understanding why we feel overworked and miserable despite working so hard. Discuss the history of work culture and the origins of our current attitudes towards productivity.
Meeting 2: Deep Dive into Work Culture
- Read: Part 1, Chapters 4-6
- Focus: Explore how work culture has evolved and how societal pressures contribute to the constant push for efficiency. Discuss the impact of these pressures on mental and physical health.
Meeting 3: Challenging Assumptions
- Read: Part 1, Chapters 7-9
- Focus: We will conclude Part 1 with a discussion on breaking free from ingrained habits and assumptions about work and success. Explore strategies the author suggests for beginning to shift our mindset.
Meeting 4: New Pathways
- Read: Part 2, Sections 1-6
- Focus: Part 2 of the book offers solutions and practical advice for living a more balanced life. Together we will discuss these strategies and how participants can start implementing them in their own lives. This session will also include reflections on the entire book and how it has impacted the participants' perspectives.
